ANGLIN’ FOR
THE PANGOLIN
Moving to Spain but sticking with the pangolin theme, Team Africa Le Mans was
among the entrants in the 24H Barcelona at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in
September last year. Participating in their fourth international 24-hour endurance
race, with (and against) some of the great names in sports-car racing, the troupe
of volunteers do it all in support of the STOP Poaching! initiative. Their mascot:
a pangolin. Their motto: “It’s impossible, said pride. It’s risky, said experience.
It’s pointless, said reason. Give it a try, whispered the heart…”
Greg Mills (1979O) was once again the driving force behind it all – he was
literally a team driver of their refurbished Ginetta G55 GT4, as well as the project
coordinator and financier – while Robert Jack (2017G), in the pits, and sponsor
Bruce Jack (1987G) came along for the ride. Greg wrote about it in Vol 8 of Jack
Journal. See teamafricalemans.com and brucejack.com for more.
WORDS FOR CHANGE
In Joe Public’s recent #ScanTheScar campaign for Amnesty International
South Africa, senior copywriter Vuyani Plata (1985W) played a pivotal role in
transforming alarming statistics into compelling narratives to highlight the crisis
of child and teenage pregnancy in South Africa. In an interview with the team
behind the campaign, which appeared on the influential industry website Little
Black Book in September 2024, Vuyani emphasised the importance of moving
beyond mere awareness to encouraging public engagement through social
media amplification and direct appeals to government officials.
