MUSIC & ENTERTAINMENT
INSTRUMENTAL INFLUENCE
The unassuming Adrian Fowler (2010M) has been a regular on the music
circuit, touring locally and internationally for 15 years, and has been
performing in Europe with Capetonian Sean Koch annually since 2018.
Last year, their tour included festival appearances and a sold-out headline
gig at the Muffathalle in Munich – and 2025 promises to be even busier: the
duo are scheduled to play at Zermatt Unplugged festival in Switzerland,
alongside UB40, and at 12 festivals around Europe in July and August.
A drummer, percussionist, DJ and guitarist, Adrian taught drums at
Bishops from 2015 to 2018 after completing his Licentiate Music Diploma
through Trinity College London. These days, he’s busy with a variety of
ongoing musical projects, including the Groove Missionaries – an eightpiece funk band that rocks festivals, parties and events throughout the
year – and collaborations with numerous artists in South Africa.
He has a day job too: he’s the director of the HeadStart Music outreach
programme, run by Bruce Jack Wines, based in Napier. Every week he
visits two schools in Napier and Stanford, teaching music to kids from
underprivileged communities. (WP van Zyl (1997K), who manages
HeadStart, alerted us to Adrian’s instrumental talents.)
“It’s been an honour and a privilege to be able to travel the world playing
music, and representing South Africa on a global scale,” Adrian tells us.
“I’m extremely grateful for my roots, the main one being the Bishops
Music department, as that was where I truly committed myself to
playing music professionally.”
Dave Wilson (1994O) has worked with some of the biggest names in Hollywood,
notably on Bloodshot and Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Netflix’s hit sci-fi series
Love, Death + Robots. Now Dave is the executive producer and supervising
director on Secret Level, an adult animated-anthology series created for
Prime Video by Tim Miller. The series consists of 15 stories set in the worlds
of different video games, with a voice cast featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger,
Kevin Hart, Keanu Reeves and others. The episodes were released worldwide
in December 2024, and the series was immediately renewed for a second
season. We should be seeing a lot more of Dave’s work in the future.
