EVENTS
UK – 20 September 2024
The UK annual black-tie dinner
celebrated the Bishops 175 in usual
fine style at the Carlton Club in the
heart of London. There was no guest
speaker this year; instead, Nicky Bicket
was honoured for his outstanding
decade of service as branch secretary.
Anthony Record MBE was both the
host for the evening and senior OD
present. Together with the youngest
OD Sebastion Alison (2020B), he
presented to Nicky a fine painting
of Bishops by Richie Ryall (1977F).
Charles McGregor (1969F), now convener of the UK branch, commands the
attention of a room full of Bishops boys on best behaviour (at that moment).
Nicky Bicket (1973F), man of the
hour, in conversation with Calum
Wehmeyer (2017B).
A brace of Robert Gray medallists:
Blaine Tomlinson (1968G) and
Anthony Record MBE (1956S).
GAUTENG – 27 November 2024
Luthando Matsaluka and Warwick Smith-Chandler were instrumental in
revitalising the ODU’s Gauteng branch in 2024, with long-distance assistance
from Lynn Swanevelder at the Mitre. The highlight was the well attended annual
dinner at the Johannesburg Country Club, with Rohan Vos of Rovos Rail fame
as speaker. The response, both from the 30 ODs who attended and those who
couldn’t make it, bodes well for events in 2025 and beyond.
