The Old Diocesan Issue 12 - Magazine - Page 114
Above all, Cassa was a family man.
He spoke of his loved ones with quiet
pride and deep admiration, and was
especially proud of his sons, Dayaan
(2017W) and Mustapha (2020W),
whose hockey achievements on the
world stage brought him immense joy.
A true legend of hockey, a coach
extraordinaire and friend to many,
his impact cannot be measured in
trophies or results, but in the lives
he touched, the values he passed on,
and the legacy he leaves behind.

Riches (2003K). See odunion.com.
EDWARD MILNE
(1940-2025)
Ed Milne was a glass-way-beyondhalf-full teacher to whom the “little
things” mattered: how you doffed
your cap and showed respect,
kindness, appreciation and modesty;
how to correctly take guard or make
a tackle or structure a sentence or
solve an equation; how you always
walked if you snicked one; how you
never offered someone “another” beer
as that implied excess – just “a” beer.
The “big things” were that Ed was
a gentleman, always put others first,
didn’t sweat the small stuff, and was
an incredible “by-example” leader,
prolific sportsman, devoted father
and amazing husband to Willow.
He was honest and true, black and
white, kind but firm. He loved life,
he loved the classroom, he loved his
colleagues, he loved sports and he
loved people. As a Bishops teacher,
he led by example through a broad
grin and naughty twinkle. How you
played was important, not whether
you won or lost.
Despite being a qualified history
teacher, Ed taught maths and English
for more than 30 years at Bishops
Prep. He was housemaster of Brooke,
Committed to safer homes
and stronger communities.

Rocking from left: the late Rick Skeeles,
Midge Hilton-Green and Ed Milne, c.1997.
First XI coach and intricately
woven into Bishops Prep life. He
cared little about appearance and
naught for material possessions; he
cared only about family, friendship
and community. He leaves behind a
younger brother Anthony, nephews
James (1986S) and Simon (1988B),
and four grandchildren.

Peter (1989K). See odunion.com.
