MICHAEL IN MARBLE
LIKE A
METEOR…
In December, The Times of London
ran an excellent profile of Springbok
star Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu
(2020F), describing him as the
“poster boy for South Africa’s tilt
at a third successive World Cup”
whose “natural sporting talent
has landed like a meteor on the
international rugby stage”. You
know a player has arrived when
the London papers start lamenting
that he might have played for them
through his English father… While
The Times subscribers will enjoy the
article, we also tracked down Sacha
for a contribution to this issue of
The Old Diocesan – see page 36.
The work of Michael Beckurts (2018S), one of our most talented
young OD artists, has featured on the cover of The Old Diocesan and
the exhibition panels of The Mitre. It also appeared in the June/July
2025 issue of VISI, a high-end South African magazine that focuses
on design, decor and architecture. “One of my favourite projects to
date has been creating large-scale drawings for Marble restaurant
at the V&A Waterfront,” Michael says. “The brief was to craft three
unique artworks that captured the story of Marble and its setting
– the views, the mountains, the inner city and the harbour.”
Michael painted the cover artwork for
Issues 3 and 4 of The Old Diocesan
just after matriculating. His more
recent work below is for Marble
restaurant at the V&A Waterfront.
In February 2025, Richard Black
(1998F) was interviewed on the
Park Street Insider, a specialist
trade podcast for the US alcohol
and beverage industry. Profiled
in Issue 10 of The Old Diocesan,
Richard is the CEO of Teremana
Tequila, a brand made famous by
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The
episode is worth a listen for anyone
interested in the industry or the
challenges of being a global CEO –
and to hear that lovely Cape accent
talking from offices in New York.
